PAPITO is a Patagonia-inspired brand that designs and sells paraphernalia for those who are interested in fun, social and safe consumption of cannabis, with a cheeky twist.
It is a personal project that was created with 3 goals in mind:
1.- Solve an alarming lack of well designed cannabis-related products.
2.- Be on the other side of the design experience. Would I provide a better design service if I Deal with suppliers, customers and find out what works, what doesn't and expose my product to unknown customers?
3.- Have fun with it!
2.- Be on the other side of the design experience. Would I provide a better design service if I Deal with suppliers, customers and find out what works, what doesn't and expose my product to unknown customers?
3.- Have fun with it!

In this effort to design better-looking cannabis accessories I stumbled upon playful naming for it: Papito, which is a Chilean slang for something weed-related (PA - for; PITO - blunt or joint). A "moledor pa'pito" would then be a "Papito weed grinder". This opened up several possibilities, such as "papelillos pa'pito" (Papito smoking paper), "filtros pa'pito" (Papito smoking filters) and so on.

Left to right: initial logomark used for laser engraved grinder; reduced main logotype, wordmark for PoP material; horizontal stacked isologo.
The graphic language evokes an old-style, medicine-like, refined typography and ornaments, that aim to give the impression of a coveted, home or beauty accessory rather than a grinder.
As I gathered inspiration from graphic styles, I came up with a basic rule to be used as a guideline: Any Papito item is designed not to be stored away, but to be shown-off by the customers.

Lastly, the brand expanded and took on more products, when stickers and t-shirts with local slangs and slogans were exhibited both in the products themselves as well as in their packaging. Language became a way of showing our culture.
This inward-looking approach meant that it's message would resonate with a smaller audience, but then again... this audience is the one I wanted to attract.
I was able to work with superstar Coco Páez for some stills and video promos.
